Things The Negro (African) Must Do For Himself
by Nannie Helen Burroughs
(Circa Early 1900’s)  Continued
The Negro Must Keep Himself, His Children And His Home Clean And Make The Surroundings In Which He Lives Comfortable and Attractive.  He must learn to “run his community up”—not down.  We can segregate by law, we integrate only by living.  Civilization is not a matter of race; it is a matter of standards.  Believe it or not—some day, some race is going to outdo the Anglo-Saxon, completely.  It can be the Negro race, if the Negro gets sense enough.  Civilization goes up and down that way.

The time is now! All male African American Urban Prep Academy Charter School Students recieve free Prom
Urban Prep Academy From: "Wali Aziz" If you want to read something to make you proud – read this article.
Will we see this on the news? NOT
Urban Prep Academy senior Keith Greer, along with his classmates, celebrates the news they will receive a free prom in Chicago because 100 percent of the graduating class was accepted into 4-year colleges or universities. (Tribune photo by Heather Charles / March 5, 2010)
The entire senior class at Chicago 's only public all-male, all-African-American high school has been accepted to four-year colleges. At last count, the 107 seniors had earned spots at 72 schools across the nation.
Mayor Richard Daley and Chicago Public Schools chief Ron Huberman surprised students at an all-school assembly at Urban Prep Academy for Young Men in Englewood this morning to congratulate them. It's the first graduating class at Urban Prep since it opened its doors in 2006.
Huberman applauded the seniors for making CPS shine.
"All of you in the senior class have shown that what matters is perseverance, what matters is focus, what matters is having a dream and following that dream," Huberman said.
The school enforces a strict uniform of black blazers, khaki pants and red ties -- with one exception. After a student receives the news he was accepted into college, he swaps his red tie for a red and gold one at an assembly.
The last 13 students received their college ties today, to thunderous applause.  Urban on 7

Local Claimant wins $19 million dollar lawsuit in Jackson Court
Attorneys for Texaco were adamant about changing the venue from Jefferson County  Mississippi.  However to their surprise the claimants  were still awarded $19 million dollars by a Hinds Count Jury.
Jefferson County was once dubbed Jackpot Jury for large jury awards. Texaco asked for a change of venue and the case was held in Jackson favorable for the Loraine Simon family and their special needs daughter.
Texaco has a long history of destroying enviroments and polluting the air they leave behind. Five Jefferson County women were awarded $19 million last week in a lawsuit alleging Texaco  is responsible for their children born with disabilities and illnesses, including mental retardation.
All the women were pregnant when they worked in the old Jefferson County office building in Fayette.

Some Reasons You’re Not Yet Receiving Your Census Form
April 07, 2010 12:02 PM  From Director Groves’ Blog
We’re receiving calls on the 866-872-6868 toll-free line from folks who haven’t received a 2010 census form yet. There are various reasons that can explain why this occurred. Each of them explain small numbers of cases; if this affects you, you can read these below to see how we’re following up on such cases.
You live in an Update/Enumerate area. For about 1.5 million addresses in remote areas, many American Indian reservations, Texas Colonias, and areas with high concentrations of seasonally vacant housing units, we send census workers to these areas to collect the information in person. This operation only began on March 22, and will continue through the end of May.
Your form is undeliverable. Some of the forms we provide to the United States Postal Service for delivery are returned by them as undeliverable. As of April 3, we had received 12.9 million of these from USPS.      Census on 9

Uninsured gets poor care for migraine: Harvard study
U.S. health system causes headaches in more ways than one, researchers say

Migraines, often characterized by excruciating headache and nausea, are much worse for the uninsured, a new Harvard Medical School study shows.
Researchers say migraine sufferers who lack private health insurance get poor care for their condition. They are about twice as likely to get inadequate treatment for their headaches as their privately insured counterparts. People with Medicaid also get substandard care.
Because migraine is common in the United States, affecting about 18 percent of women and 6 percent of men, and because so many Americans lack health insurance, a startling 5.5 million people are at risk of getting substandard care for their often painful and disabling headaches, the researchers say.
The study, titled "The impact of insurance status on migraine care in the United States: a population based study," was published [Tuesday, April 13] in Neurology, the world's leading clinical neurology journal.
Study senior author Dr. Rachel Nardin, assistant professor of neurology at Harvard and chief of neurology at the Cambridge Health Alliance in Massachusetts, said: "The tragedy is that we know how to treat this disabling condition. But because they are uninsured or inadequately insured, millions of Americans suffer needlessly.  "Unfortunately," she said, "the new health law doesn't fully address this problem. At least 23 million people will remain uninsured nine years out.
